  • Condition: Overall, this rug is in fantastic shape but there are a few issues. There is a stain at one corner of the fringe. There is a darker stain at a different corner of the fringe. There is one tear that was repaired. There are several mysterious white spots. I was able to remove one with a wet cloth. The others are more stubborn. No idea what the substance is. All of the above defects are shown in close up photographs so please refer to the photographs as they are part of the description of the condition.

    Description

    ANTIQUE VERY FINE WOVEN MEXICAN SALTILLO SERAPE WOOL RUG BLANKET WALL HANGING.
    The dimensions are 70 inches by 37 inches, not including the fringe.
    I do not know the entire history of this serape but I am able to provide some of the ownership history of this amazing item.
    My mother purchased it in the early 1970's in Los Angeles.
    She frequented antique stores and markets and likely found this in one of them.
    She hung it on a wall for a time.
    You'll notice that the one end of the blanket has had 5 inches of material folded over and sewn to the rest of the blanket, thereby creating a pocket for the item to be hung on a curtain rod.
    I dont know if my mother had that done or if it came to her that way.
    There is one photo that shows a close up of this stitching.
    The fringe on both ends is in perfect condition.
    The colors are incredibly vibrant. There are no faded areas.
    My mother had the serape cleaned years ago and then covered it and hung it in her linen closet.
    This item is just gorgeous in person. I doubt the photographs really do the colors justice.
    There are a few defects and I describe them above.
