    Description

Stunning large vintage example of the quintessential Saltillo serape, made of woven wool in the Mexican state of Coahuila.
They were made as far back as the 1500s by the Aztecs. Known for their bold bands of colour and central diamond pattern, they’re made of wool, agave, and cotton and are used as blankets, coats, décor, or on horsebacks.
Look closely and you will see a series of red, white, and green strips dividing up the sections of the blanket, representing the colours of the Mexican flag.
Could have been made anywhere from 1930-1940's or even 1950's
There is some bleed over of the dye which can be seen in the pictures. Does not detract from it's beauty in any way. It should be dry cleaned only to preserve it in its current gorgeous state.
