This striking rug was 100% hand made by Jacobo and Mirella Vasquez of Teotitlan de Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico. They create authentic Oaxacan carpets, not the commercially made ones that are frequently peddled to tourists. Unfortunately, m
ost of the Mexican rugs coming out of Oaxaca these days are made out of commercially produced yarn which has been synthetically dyed.
Jacobo and Mirella buy the wool locally, then slowly card it into fibers and spin it into yarn. The yarn is then washed and dyed, with natural pigments that they make themselves from vegetable and mineral sources, as well as crushed insects, giving vibrant colors. After all of these steps, they weave the beautiful carpets on huge looms, with each carpet being unique.
This rug is 23" x 40" and can be used on the floor or hung on a wall. Sometimes carpets with fringe will begin to unravel, so we have the fringe woven into the carpets most of the time.

Note - Applicable state taxes for internet sales will be added by ebay.
Care: Colorfast, but remember, wool shrinks!! Dry clean or hand wash in cold water.  Do not put in a dryer.
