This amazing antique colorful embroidered Chinese figural Canton Manton de Manila piano shawl dates from the late 19th century. It is made of an off white cream color silk fabric background, with colorful pastel silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are incredible intricate densely embroidered Chinese village scene designs with mind blowing details of men, women, children at work, play and celebration wearing colorful detailed traditional dress robes, hats and shoes. The center has pagoda shrine temples,  birds, peacocks, butterflies, a wide variety of animals surround the rest of the shawl including mythical creatures, dragons, foo dogs, water creatures fish, shrimp, crabs, turtles. There are many modes of transportation, rickshaws, carts, litters, boats, plowing oxen, horses, fishing, farming, hunting deer, kite flying, scholars and opium pipe smoking. The shawls fabric square measures 62 by 62 inches and the hand knotted macrame cream silk fringe is 18 inches long surrounding the entire shawl with rounded corners. This magnificent embroidered workmanship, quality made Manton de Manila Canton Chinese Cantonese style shawl is quite heavy weighing over 4 pounds. It is in good condition, with only some very faint slight soiling discoloration around the border edging which is difficult to see. This is truly a rare, one of a kind, exceptional piece of Chinese embroidery textile art!
