Antique Chinese Silk Pleated Figural Embroidered Gold Couching Han Wedding Skirt
This antique Chinese silk pleated figural embroidered gold couching Han wedding skirt dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched made of a light pale blue silk damask weave fabric with a woven bat design, a symbol of happiness, longevity and a matching pair of colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidered figural panels with gold thread couching work details. There are colorful silk damask weave ribbon trim border edgings and white silk colorful hand embroidered flowers, butterflies, endless knot designs trimmings. This beautiful blue Han women's wedding skirt has a wrap around style, with a wide cotton waistband attaching the two matching embroidered apron skirt panels together, side pleated details and is lined in areas with a red silk fabric backing. The skirt measures 37 inches long, with a 48 inch wide waist. It is in fair as-is condition, with several patched mended repairs along the waistband, on the pleated side skirt, a frayed small hole and fade discoloration on the red silk lining (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese wearable art!
